Information we collect
We collect the account details, business information and photographs you provide, together with subscription and payment records. For a website package, we also hold the contact details and information needed to arrange the work. We keep messages you send us and records of account changes, moderation and security activity. Security and sign-in records can include IP addresses and device information. Reviews include the reviewer's name, email address, rating and written comments. We use coded identifiers to help detect duplicate reviews and spam.
What appears publicly
Approved profiles show the business details and photographs selected for publication. You can publish a service area without showing your street address. Your sign-in email and billing records are private unless you separately choose to use that email as a public business contact. Draft profiles and changes awaiting approval are not public. Approved reviews display the reviewer's chosen name, rating, comments and date. Business owners can review submissions for their own profiles, but cannot see reviewers' email addresses. Staff can access those addresses to manage reviews. Public profiles and reviews may appear in search engines.
Why we use information
We use information to provide accounts, publish business profiles, manage subscriptions, arrange website packages and answer enquiries. Where you personally enter into a contract with us, we use the information needed to provide that service or take steps you request before joining. We rely on our legitimate interests when dealing with representatives of business customers, operating and moderating the directory, handling reviews and protecting the service against misuse. We also use information where necessary to meet legal obligations, such as keeping required accounting records and responding to privacy-rights requests. Account registration requires your name, email address and password. A review requires an email address so we can confirm it. We cannot provide those features without the required details.
Payments and service providers
Our website-hosting and business-email providers process information needed to operate the service. Authorised staff use account and business information to provide support and manage the directory. Payments and subscription management use Stripe. We send Stripe your account email, business name and reference, and package details. You enter card details on Stripe's payment pages. Stripe provides payment and subscription records so we can manage your listing. Stripe explains its handling of information, including international processing, at stripe.com/gb/privacy.
Review information
Reviewer email addresses are encrypted in storage and are not displayed to business owners or visitors. We use a coded version of the email address to identify duplicate reviews and a temporary coded IP identifier to help prevent spam. Automated checks help screen submissions; the business owner or staff reviews confirmed submissions before publication. Unconfirmed reviews are scheduled for removal after seven days. Rejected reviews are scheduled for removal after 90 days, and reviews marked as deleted after 30 days. The coded IP identifier attached to a review is scheduled for removal after 30 days. These rules apply to review records, not all security or hosting logs. Approved reviews and their contact information remain unless removed. Moderation records are kept separately.
Account records and deletion requests
Account and subscription records are not automatically erased when a subscription ends. You can request account deletion from your account or by contacting us. An account deletion request submitted through your account hides your profile and cancels renewal. Staff then review the request, including any records needed for outstanding payments, legal obligations, disputes or security. Submitting the request does not immediately erase the account, payment records or backups.
Access and correction
You can update your account and business profile details and download account, profile and subscription information from your account. That download contains selected records rather than every piece of information we may hold. For a fuller access request, or to request correction, deletion, restricted use or portability, email hello@listyourbusiness.co.uk. Reviewers can use the same address without creating a business account. Your rights depend on the circumstances and the reason we hold the information. We may need to confirm your identity before dealing with a request.
Your right to object
You can object to our use of your personal information where we rely on legitimate interests. Email hello@listyourbusiness.co.uk and explain the circumstances you would like us to consider. We will review the request and whether there are grounds to continue the processing.
Essential cookies
We use essential cookies to keep sign-in sessions working and protect forms. This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. Blocking essential cookies in your browser can prevent sign-in and some forms from working. Stripe's payment pages have their own privacy and cookie information.
Service emails
We use email for account verification, password resets, review confirmation and necessary account or service messages. Submitting a review does not sign you up for marketing.
Privacy concerns

UK account and review access
Anyone can browse the public directory. Creating or using an account and submitting or confirming a review requires a UK internet connection. We check the country associated with your IP address using a database stored on our server. Your IP address is not sent to the database provider for this check. IP-based locations can be inaccurate; contact us if you are in the UK and cannot access your account.
We use UK address ranges extracted from the DB-IP IP to Country Lite database, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. The database is updated monthly. This country check does not replace our account security and review moderation.
